TRUTH OR DARE STUDENT CHALLENGE

EcoAction Partners works with schools and youth to engage local families, motivate actions, and build life-long sustainability habits. We developed an educational challenge for kids and families in our community to reduce their carbon footprints, save money, energy, and waste.

HOW IT WORKS

An elective school program designed for 9-13 year olds, the Truth or Dare program teaches students about climate change, greenhouse gases, and how they can lower their carbon footprint and conserve resources. Over the course of a week, students are challenged to participate in "dares" such as unplugging electric gadgets when not in use, using reusable containers, and turning off lights when leaving a room. Students earn points for each sustainability "dare" they do while also learning the "truths" associated with them. These "truths" help explain the importance of these actions and how they reduce greenhouse gas emissions. EcoAction Partners then calculates the total greenhouse gas emission reduction from these actions and the top three students who reduce their emissions the most receive prizes. Many of the actions involve the whole family, helping the educational outreach amplify throughout the community.

2022 TOTAL Results

Over the spring and fall semesters in 2022, these were the accumulative results for all the schools that participated in the Truth or Dare challenge across San Miguel and Ouray Counties.

657
